Capability North East is a local charitable business that helps the environment and people to make North East England the best place to be.
It is named after the North East landscape architect, Capability Brown, who lived 300 years ago and created some of the most-loved landscapes in the UK.
Many of the places and gardens he designed are still being realised, hundreds of years after their creation. This is where the inspiration for Capability North East came from, what environmental and landscape legacy are we going to leave for future generations? We recognises that the actions we take today will create the healthy and flourishing environment of the North East and of the future.
The Objects of the Charity are to preserve and promote the natural environment, for the public benefit through the provision of grants, projects, educational and recreational opportunities for people of all ages and all abilities (the Beneficiaries) to access the outdoors in North East England.
Our environmental services help industrial and public sector clients balance growth with resiliency — reducing resource use, profit risks associated to natural resources and climate change, opportunities to offset carbon locally, while protecting our natural environment.
We have a range of sustainability packages that guide those starting their sustainable business journey to verification and accreditation for organisations with more established Environmental Management Systems (EMS).
All profits above operating costs contribute to the Capability North East Fund, a fund specifically for the North East to enable landscape scale enhancements that benefit nature and people.
Become Investors in the Environment accredited (iiE) and become a more sustainable organisation in every way.
