Durham County Council Members’ Seminar: How Can We All Benefit from our ‘Natural’ Health Service?
The North East LEngland Nature Partnership (NEENP) has agreed to prepare an elected members guide on why the landscape and places we live in are vitally important to health and wellbeing and in supporting healthy lifestyle choices. The natural environment is an area of growing interest and importance as it is inextricably linked to both our economic success and the physical health and mental wellbeing of our communities. However the amount of evidence around this area is large and often complex which means decision making can be challenging.
To support community leaders such as local Councillors, the North East England Nature Partnership – nature’s equivalent of the LEP – is developing politicians guide to the natural environment and green economy. Durham County Council is an active member of the NEENP and we would welcome contributions from Elected Members in the development of this project, particularly through focusing skills and knowledge on the theme of the natural environment and health.
This seminar aims to help make sure that the content of the guide is user-friendly and provides the answers most needed for key decision makers to understand how environmental issues can benefit and impact on wider social and economic well-being.
Presenters from NELNP, Public Health England and the Council will give a flavour of the key opportunities arising from linking environment and health and invite ideas and proposals on how this might best be achieved in the context of local government.
This will be an interactive session, actively seeking Members’ opinions, thoughts and questions; please come along and help us meet the challenge of producing the best guide possible.
