A thriving natural environment, providing for a healthier and wealthier North East’
Our environment has worked hard for hundreds of years, enabled economic success and is central to our North East identity. It is the most valuable asset we have; thousands of local jobs are linked to the environment and it is vitally important for our health and wellbeing. Therefore, we must ensure our economic plans create a place that is attractive to sustainable investment as well as being complementary to nature and human wellbeing.
The long term stewardship and promotion of our region’s natural environment is the core work of the North East England Nature Partnership (NEENP). To achieve a thriving natural environment and a healthier and wealthier North East England we must:
- Champion the real value of nature.
- Lead landscape-scale biodiversity enhancements to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
- Make the business case for investment in the natural environment.
- Improve community health and well-being through better access to nature.
In 2017 NEENP launched a 20-year Vision for Environmental Growth that set out opportunities to invest in our natural capital and deliver improvements to the natural environment that are also integrated with enhancement of local communities and support economic success.
The partnership is working strategically and collaboratively with other sectors to achieve environmental growth by investing in our natural capital and adding value to our ecosystems by focusing on 4 themes to deliver our aims.
